Mars Movie Review – Here Comes the Boom

herecomestheboomMovie Info: In the comedy Here Comes the Boom, former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler,) Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone thinks Scott is crazy – most of all the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) – but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school. — (C) Official Site

Mars Review: The alarms about how ridiculous and predictable the plot is can be heard from miles away… for the most part, “Boom” lazily follows Adam Sandler’s proven recipe for box-office success.  Kevin James is an appealing performer who’d probably be even more likable if he could pick out better scripts. James not only transformed into a fighter, but also managed to perfect his lead role performance.  I was rooting for kind-of-happy ending even though my cynical little movie critic mind knew the result should be so obvious.
